The video for “Cold Dead Things” by My Flag is on Fire, directed by Reno-based friend and artist Omar Pierce. It has video games and vending-machine putty and probably some looming narrative about the making and unmaking of things. My favorite thing Omar’s done is this album cover, for We Buy from the Children by Short Hair. I would see the record every time I visited Discology, a record store in Reno that shares space with an art gallery. Pictures hang on a weirdly suspended cloth that bisects and twists the space. Hard to tell how the cloth or the pictures stay in the air, how they tangle with each other and fuse into an unsure architecture. You have to angle past inhuman perspectives of Lake Tahoe to get to the records, five or six bins in a recessed space, plus a rack for local music. You can hear the Truckee River outside, rolling disquiet.
