Tomorrow night I am hosting a singalong to Saves the Day’s Stay What You Are. People have universally informed me they prefer Through Being Cool. Fine, dudes, but which of those records is really difficult to sing with, and which of those records haunts its time and place precisely.
(Both do, probably, and I didn’t listen to either record until 2005. Regardless, Through Being Cool sounds very much like a pop-punk record while Stay What You Are kind of sounds like 2001. It seems embossed into the guitar sound. A record from a genre on its commercial precipice, and it’s louder for that. The chords of “At Your Funeral” come ringing at you from a past, a dazzling rift in chronology.)
buongiorno drew this poster and the soft digressions of color make the field translate nearly as fire to me, and that’s really beautiful, thank you.
