Flaming Tusk are from New York. Three members of Flaming Tusk are friends of mine from the Last Plane to Jakarta forums, a community that is seemingly insular but is really an open wound full of brilliant people.
Flaming Tusk play metal. The metal they play is massive; its shifts are felt in my skeleton. I hesitate to use “epic” as a descriptor because, now, everything is “epic.” That movie was “epic.” Your shoes are “epic.” The internet beatdown you served unto that new young thing was “epic.”
Flaming Tusk are a steamroller. I suppose a steamroller is “epic.”
Now for metal subgenre time! I suppose this is death metal in the early ’90s sense, when it still sculpted parts of its weird existence from jazz. It’s death with a melodic sense, though not enough to make it “melodic death.” Hairsplitting is “epic.”
It’s also slower than usual death, and it is given to moments of sludge and doom which are great and swallowing, like the ocean or a really big mouth.
This morning, Flaming Tusk released their first LP, entitled Old, Blackened Century. You know that to be the best possible title for anything. It streams and slowly flattens the whole of the internet from here. You may also purchase it for whatever price you desire. I purchased it for $6.66 because I am juvenile.
