Who can keep to established genre hierarchies while the whole ocean colors them in? ABBA has been induced into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (yes, the best two bands that rearranged your skeleton in an accessible fashion—ABBA so purely saccharine that their perfect assault made your bones brittle, The Stooges so purely about vomiting stomach acid (there are no hidden layers with The Stooges, their subversion is superficial, that is their whole appeal) that their perfect assault made your bones brittle—have made a an institution worth nothing, worth noting). Slow-motion bathtub electrocution. Suddenly waking up in a car with your hands and feet bound. Taking pleasure from it. All done up in guitar gauze that really just eats at the sutures. A really popular nu-metal record about pre-death euphoria.

There is a fucking tent. In the space where those electric-guitar-playin’ astronauts normally only fill space. Shadows move within the tent, supposedly calculating whatever sound this is that gallops from the speakers directly into your guts. It sounds like the earth’s long-held-in exhalations. It is bigger than you. These shadows seem to extend and bow, as though they are all kowtowing to the sound. As if the sound built them from nothing, and they must pay their respects.

Which is understandable, because the sound bears wrath. The sound has an unknowable bottom. Although I would bet good money that the bottom is either a black hole or full of teeth.
